Royal Family & The New York JVC Jazz Festival 2008

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

Greetings to all in the Royal Family!  This past week was a quite memorable time for all live music lovers.  Lettuce & Soulive played a combination of 3 shows for the JVC Fest at two ultra cool venues.  First up, Lettuce with Maceo Parker at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple!  It was an honor for the fellas to open for the legendary Saxaphone gangster and his incredible band.  I think Maceo played for almost 3 hours! If you made the show, you know it was a full night of movin’, heavy funk.  Thanks to all the show goers and Brooklynites who came out and moved their thangs!  Funk Nasty it was!

Our next JVC Jazz Fest moment was held at a brand new venue, Le Poisson Rouge (formerly The Village Gate).  Let me tell you, the fine people at LPR have put in a lot of work to make sure this is a live music venue that will stand the test of time.  On the bill for both a thursday and friday night show was Soulive featuring Joshua Redman.  Typically for this grade of show you get a nice mixture of hardcore dedicated Soulive & Redman fans alongside some old school jazz cats.  I will tell you this, both shows were seriously on point and something magical…. but friday nights’ show was easily one of the best live music shows I’ve ever attended.  It could have quite possibly been the best Soulive show I’ve ever seen.  Joshua Redman was simply killin and the crowd yelled, hollered, stomped their feet and showed ample appreciation after every tune.

Sit-ins for the night included Sir Adam Deitch & Eldar Djangirov!
